An afternoon of physical culture in the garden, with the equipment spread out across the grass and Maddie eventually deciding that she should probably be involved too.
The preparation began with Persian meels, Indian gada and the 10kg Rumali dumbbells, gradually building through the different tools before getting to the main event.
Five rounds of:
8kg gada single-arm 360s x 40 reps
10kg Persian meels x 20 reps
14kg Rumali dumbbell swings x 20 reps
The Rumalis are particularly fun, each one weighs 14kg and is made from two bowling balls, not exactly something you’ll find on the shelves of your average gym. 😂
Five rounds later, the practice moved into skill-specific warm-down work: lighter gada, progressively lighter meels and the 10kg Rumalis, gradually bringing the intensity back down.
Then, somewhere in the middle of all this, Maddie appeared, not to practice, not to inspect my technique; she simply settled down beside me and began a little personal grooming session.
The final 4.5kg four-count meels brought the practice to a close.
Around 910 reps of physical culture across the whole session, using meels, gada and Rumali dumbbells, but the numbers aren’t really the point.
Different tools, different rhythms, different skills, a garden full of movement and a cat who knows exactly when it’s time to stop and have a wash.
Physical culture, Maddie style. 😻
