Sunday began with kettlebell coaching and a new client; we spent the session building the foundations with plenty of swing and clean practice, probably 300 to 400 reps between us, before heading onto the decking for ten minutes of yoga restoration.
And, like clockwork, Maddie emerged from the undergrowth to inspect our new arrival. In and out between his legs, she carried out her usual checks before deciding he was worthy of the official I Met Maddie mug. 😸
That makes four coaching sessions this week, with Maddie achieving a perfect 100% attendance record, her commitment to quality control remains exceptional.
After my client left, I stayed in the garden for some autumn-sun physical culture:
Gada 360s and 10-to-2s, Persian meels at various weights, and plenty of flowing combinations filled the afternoon. The sunshine made the decking an irresistible place to practice.
Later, I returned to the dojo for five rounds combining the speed bag with the Cobra and heavy bag, before moving onto six rounds of rope flow matadors paired with ten judo uchikomi on the bands each round and that brought back some memories:
My favourite throwing technique was always Morote Seoi-nage. Back in the 1980s and early 1990s, I delivered plenty of ippons with it. The years have passed, but the foot-speed entry is still there! 😁
It’s one of the things I love about physical culture. The tools and practices may change, but skills developed through years of movement can remain with you. Sometimes all it takes is a few repetitions to reconnect with something that has been there all along.
A Sunday of coaching, autumn sunshine, flowing movement and a little nostalgia and of course, Maddie was there to make sure standards were maintained.
