Today’s practice had a bit of everything.
The morning began with four rounds of 5kg Persian meels, 100 reps per round, followed by three minutes of Rope Flow. A little more meel work finished the session, including four-counts and inner and outer swings.
The evening was a different story.
Persian meels, Indian gada, heavier 10-to-2 combinations and barely any rest between the sets. The gada work moved from single-arm combinations to double-handed movements, building into a demanding sequence with the 8kg meels and 11kg single hand gada.
Then came the kettlebells:
Swing-to-cleans, double kettlebell work, and a 12-minute EMOM alternating between judo uchikomi bands (see image right) and a movement I think of as a kettlebell burpee: a bodyweight sprawl straight into a double 20kg clean. The repetitions came down from eight to three, but the effort certainly didn’t disappear.
More kettlebell combinations followed, including swing-to-snatch work, before finishing the main session with four rounds of speed bag, double-end bag and Cobra bag. Fifteen seconds between bags, enough time to transition, not enough to get comfortable. 😄
A final little meel sequence brought everything to a close.
It was a full-on practice, quite tough, but recovery came quickly and there was no sense of having emptied the tank completely.
The day finished quietly on the decking with some Qigong and, naturally, Maddie joined me for a brief inspection.
Even after all that movement, there was still time to settle, breathe and enjoy the evening.
A demanding practice, a quick recovery and a peaceful finish.
Just another day in the movement laboratory. 🧡
